The Cross-Culture

A Conversation about Christ and Culture in Downtown Los Angeles by Dennis Kang

This Present Hour

William Blake once wrote:

There is a Moment in each Day that Satan cannot find
Nor can his Watch Fiends find it, but the Industrious find
This Moment & it multiply, & when it once is found
It Renovates every Moment of the Day if rightly placed

I love the playfulness of the idea that there is a moment in time within each day that Satan cannot find. This moment can be a moment of transcendence, of communion or of meditation. Within that moment heaven breaks into our often fragmented world. And when we let this moment spill over into our every hour there can be this divine renovation.

Tolstoy says at the end of one his short stories, “Remember then: there is only one time that is important – Now! It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power.”

So often I live in the past by regretting stupid decisions or lamenting failed opportunities. I often live in the future by daydreaming about what can be. But it’s so difficult to live in the now – to make this moment matter.

I want to live with eternity in my heart. I want to use my days and my hours in ways more profitable. I want to live with perspective and passion. I hope that this blog will let everyone and myself live in such a way that is more meaningful.
